Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design, integration, and validation of electrical subsystems for fixed-wing and VTOL UAS. You will own major electrical deliverables, coordinate with mechanical, software, and flight-test teams, and drive system-level troubleshooting.

The role requires deep technical expertise, strong analysis, and a focus on safety, reliability, manufacturability, and performance in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 4–7 years of hands-on experience in electrical, avionics, or embedded hardware design.
• Experience owning subsystem-level design from concept through validation.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, HIL/SIL testing, and/or flight test operations.
• Proficiency with schematic capture and electrical design tools (Altium Designer preferred).
• Strong understanding of wiring harness development, signal routing, shielding, EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analysis tools, and electrical debug equipment.
• Deep understanding of communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, RS-422/485, UART).
• Knowledge of power electronics, DC/DC regulation, and battery/ESD protection strategies.
• Familiarity with aerospace cable assemblies, MIL-SPEC connectors, and environmental qualification standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical subsystem design and integration for avionics, sensors, payloads, and power distribution.
• Develop wiring harness architecture, schematics, PCB requirements, and interfaces.
• Perform advanced electrical analysis: failure modes, power budgeting, signal integrity, grounding.
• Drive system integration with mechanical, software, GNC, test engineering, and production.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for electrical and avionics issues in lab, production, or flight tests.
• Support flight test activities including instrumentation and data collection.
• Lead formal design reviews (PDR, CDR) ensuring electrical deliverables meet standards.
• Provide mentorship and technical oversight for junior engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality to ensure manufacturability.
• Contribute to development and refinement of engineering processes and standards.
• Manage multiple priorities balancing depth with delivery timelines.
• Own subsystem performance with initiative and accountability.
