Job summary

RedWire Defense Tech in Huntsville, AL seeks a Senior Aero-Mechanical Engineer to lead design, development, and validation of complex mechanical systems for UAS. You will own major subsystems, balance performance with manufacturability, and mentor junior staff.

You will guide prototype builds, tests, and production transitions while contributing to design standards and process improvements across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
• 4–7 years of relevant mechanical or aerospace engineering experience.
• Experience developing products for aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated environments.
• Hands-on prototype, production, and test activities.
• Advanced CAD modeling and drafting (SolidWorks preferred).
• Deep understanding of GD&T and documentation control.
• Experience performing FEA and design optimization.
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (SolidWorks PDM, Windchill).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, modeling, and analysis of major mechanical and structural subsystems for UAS.
• Perform and review tolerance analysis, structural analysis (FEA), and materials selection.
• Oversee design documentation, drawing release, and configuration management activities.
• Coordinate design integration across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
• Guide prototype builds, resolving manufacturability, fit, and performance issues.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate structural integrity and system performance.
• Lead and participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into designs.
• Support production readiness and quality verification for new and existing products.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote technical best practices.
