Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an Avionics DFI Engineer III in the Greater Seattle area to lead Development Flight Instrumentation for lunar missions. You will architect DFI solutions, integrate sensors, and support ground, test, and flight operations across the full lifecycle.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, budget/schedule management, and ensuring designs meet safety and environmental requirements for lunar missions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in avionics, instrumentation, and electro-optical/imaging systems engineering.
  • Experience owning a subsystem across full lifecycle: requirements, design, integration, and verification & validation.
  • Familiarity with aerospace system design requirements (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for Development Flight Instrumentation (DFI) across the full subsystem lifecycle.
  • Architect and design DFI solutions using custom and COTS avionics hardware.
  • Design, integrate, and test flight hardware assemblies to verify functionality against requirements.
  • Develop and maintain ground support equipment and test electronics for instrumentation development.
  • Coordinate sensor installation and integration activities with technicians and product teams.
  • Support test and flight operations, including real-time operation and data analysis.
  • Drive make-vs-buy trades and manage DFI budget and schedule.
