Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff AV Safety Engineer, Human Factors, to lead human factors safety efforts across the development, testing, and deployment of GM’s automated driving systems. The role evaluates human performance, workload, attention, and automation limits to produce safety-case evidence and operational controls.

You will collaborate with safety, systems engineering, design, product, and regulatory teams to ensure safety requirements are integrated from concept through launch.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field.
• 10+ years applying human factors to safety-critical systems.
• Experience with hazard analysis methods (STPA, FTA, FMECA).
• Ability to translate findings into safety requirements and design guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead human factors safety expert to advance AV safety strategy and provide actionable recommendations.
• Perform hazard analyses considering human interaction with automated driving systems.
• Derive traceable safety requirements and operational controls from hazard assessments.
• Provide human-machine interface guidance for driver monitoring and related systems.
• Coordinate with safety, systems engineering, design, and regulatory teams.
