Job summary

Johnson & Johnson RAD (Robotics and Digital) seeks a Senior Engineer, Automation Applications to architect, develop, and deploy scalable automation across manufacturing. You will deliver robotic cells, AMRs, smart workstations, and OT/IT integration from shop floor to enterprise platforms.

You will lead cross-functional teams, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and drive cost-effective, modular automation across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, robotics, computer, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 5+ years delivering industrial automation/robotics in manufacturing (medical device/regulated preferred).
  • Hands-on with industrial robots (cell layout, EOAT, safety, cycle-time optimization).
  • PLC/controls experience (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff).
  • Familiarity with OT protocols and industrial networks.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of automation solutions from concept through commissioning and handover (FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ where applicable).
  • Architect and implement semi-automated to fully automated robotic solutions (robots, AMRs, vision, EOAT).
  • Define functional specs, URS/FRS, test plans, acceptance criteria, commissioning docs.
  • Lead system design reviews and provide technical direction to internal teams and integrators.
  • Specify, integrate, and validate hardware/software: robots, PLCs, HMIs, safety controllers, vision systems.
  • Drive machine safety and risk assessments; maintain EHS compliance.
  • Set up functional safety/standards (ISO 10218/TS 15066, ISO 13849/IEC 62061, ISO 12100).
  • Implement OT/IIoT connectivity, edge devices, monitoring; dashboards.
  • Develop automation standards and digital engineering artifacts.
  • Partner with manufacturing, operations, IT, cybersecurity; manage partners/integrators (RFQ/SOW).
