Job summary

GAF is seeking a Corporate Automation and Controls Engineer IV to provide advanced technical direction on control and automation systems across plants. This role involves troubleshooting production-line electrical issues, mentoring plant controls staff, and guiding complex system design with a focus on improving performance.

Responsibilities cover four areas: plant engineering, strategic projects, troubleshooting and training, and cross-team coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 5+ years of controls engineering experience in a continuous manufacturing environment required.
• 10+ years of controls engineering experience in a continuous manufacturing environment preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Proficiency with Rockwell Automation software - Studio 5000, RSLogix 500, FTView, CCW, and FTAC.
• Proficiency selecting, configuring, and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PowerFlex variable frequency drives.
• HMI development experience - FTView and/or Wonderware.
• Experience with maintaining Production networks, including servers and managed switches.
• Expertise focused on electrical components, electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, and variable speed AC drives.
• Demonstrated process control experience in defining, designing, installing, and maintaining control logic systems and equipment in a continuous process manufacturing environment.
• Effective communication skills.
• Proficiency selecting, configuring, and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley Kinetix servo drives.
• Experience selecting, configuring, and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley safety PLCs, I/O, and STO hardware.
• Demonstrated experience leading controls projects from scope to startup.
• Ability to use trending and analytical tools to troubleshoot process issues.
• Controls SME with a continuous web handling operation.
• Deep understanding of basic electrical theory.
• Knowledge of electrical/electromechanical devices.
• Knowledge of instrumentation and calibration (Pressure, temperature, flow).
• Ability to tune PID controllers.
• Controls experience with a continuous web handling operation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plant engineering support: act as primary internal resource for control systems and identify opportunities to improve plant performance.
• Strategic project development: help create and maintain controls team standards and lead cross-plant projects.
• Plant support and troubleshooting: provide on-site/remote technical guidance and training to plant controls personnel.
• Control Group Coordination: coordinate with controls group on standards and communicate with team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
