Job summary

Hiscox AG is seeking a Principal Quality Engineer to lead automation-driven testing across UI, API, and integration layers, embedding testing into CI/CD and shifting left to improve code quality. You will design scalable frameworks, mentor teams, and drive modern testing practices at scale.

You will own test strategy for value streams, partner with Engineering, Product, Architecture and Security, and enable multiple teams with Playwright, Cucumber, and TypeScript expertise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software test automation or software engineering.
• 5+ years in a principal or lead role.
• Deep hands-on expertise with TypeScript, Playwright, Cucumber.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, cloud-native testing, and DevOps QA workflows.
• Experience designing automation frameworks from scratch and scaling them.
• Solid understanding of performance testing, API testing, and test observability tools.
• Familiarity with Agile/SAFe practices.
• Insurance or financial services domain experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of automation frameworks using Playwright and Cucumber.
• Drive automation-first mindset with automated tests across UI, API, integration, and regression layers.
• Partner with developers to improve testability, shift-left, and continuous testing.
• Own test strategy for assigned value streams aligned with CI/CD pipelines.
• Build and maintain scalable automation frameworks for multiple teams.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
• Establish standards for test data management, mocking, and service virtualization.
• Evaluate and introduce new tools to improve speed, stability, and observability of tests.
• Define best practices for test automation, defect triage, root-cause analysis, and quality gates.
• Standardize tooling, reporting, and quality metrics across teams.
• Embed testing early with Engineering, Product, Architecture, and Security; lead enablement sessions on Playwright, Cucumber, and TypeScript.
