Houston Community College seeks an Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Retention and Completion to lead college-wide initiatives designed to improve retention, completion, and equitable outcomes. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required in higher education or related field with leadership/supervision experience.
  • 8 years combined higher education administration including program development, outcomes, faculty/staff development, data collection/analysis and reporting.
  • 5 years in educational administration in student development, instructional assessment and effectiveness management at the admin level.
  • Experience in a multi-college, complex community college environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership that utilizes innovation and creativity in implementing retention and completion initiatives (advising, proactive monitoring systems, first-year programs, guided pathways, student engagement).
  • Serve as a collaborative strategic partner in data reviews to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improving student success with focus on equity in retention and completion rates.
  • Provide leadership to Student Retention/Success committees as established by senior leaders.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan for scaling and sun-setting student retention, success, and completion strategies at the College.
  • Lead a portfolio of student-centered programs and services ensuring measurable progress of student success outcomes guided by data-informed best practices.
  • Foster partnerships with completion- and success-oriented organizations and programs to enhance access to academic, career, and personal development resources and close opportunity gaps.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Leaders and the Faculty Academy to promote learner-centered teaching strategies, innovative curricula and quality instructional materials to support student success.
  • Identify and manage grant opportunities that support student retention and completion.
  • Develop, utilize, and assess a robust data strategy and other technological advances to create a model retention program for both in-person and online students.
  • Lead and evaluate college retention and persistence efforts including academic recovery and use of the academic alert system, ensuring data-driven assessment informs practice.
