Job Description: Architect II

If you are hired provisionally in this title, you must take and pass the Civil Service Exam, when it becomes available, to be eligible for continued employment.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) comprises the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA aims to fight poverty by providing benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS focuses on preventing and addressing homelessness, helping families and individuals exit shelters and regain self-sufficiency.

HRA's General Support Services (GSS) provides facilities for social programs, including planning, design, renovation, maintenance, safety, lease management, and emergency preparedness. The Facilities Operations (FO) Bureau of Space and Design (BSD), Division of Architecture & Engineering (DAE), is seeking an Architect II, functioning as a Senior Architect, to:

  1. Perform complex architectural work related to the agency's construction programs.
  2. Develop project scope and preliminary cost estimates.
  3. Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  4. Review construction and consultant contracts for scope compliance.
  5. Review architectural plans prepared by consultants or in-house staff.
  6. Coordinate and manage projects from conception to completion.
  7. Prepare sketches and layouts.
  8. Research and evaluate building materials and systems for capital projects.
  9. Participate in inspections and prepare punch lists for corrections.
  10. Sign and seal official architectural documents.
  11. Interpret Building Code and Zoning Resolution for non-technical staff.
  12. File projects with DOB, DEP, CPC, and FDNY to meet city initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A valid New York State Registration as an Architect, maintained throughout employment.
  2. At least one year of experience within the last three years as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring specific expertise.
