Job description

Job Description

The Senior Architect is responsible for designing and managing solutions that support the needs of Hazen and Sawyer's client base. Develop schematic and detailed design solutions in accordance with Hazen's standards. Coordinate with internal teams—including engineering, project management, construction estimating, construction field staff, and building code officials—as well as external consultants to deliver effective and efficient design solutions. Participate in document production with other teams to ensure full integration of all building components.

Requirements:

  • Professional architectural degree from a U.S.-accredited university
  • 10+ years of broad-based architectural experience, including building infrastructure design
  • NYS license and NCARB certification or the ability to obtain them
  • Experience with project budgets, schedules, and quality management
  • Experience with public bid projects
  • Proficiency in architectural design and quality assurance
  • Knowledge of building systems and their coordination/integration (Architectural, Structural, MEP, Civil)
  • Knowledge of building codes, environmental regulations, and sustainability concepts
  • Experience with materials selection, construction methods, and development of construction details
  • Proficiency in Revit BIM, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and Bluebeam

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and oversee architectural work throughout the project lifecycle
  • Supervise and lead a design team
  • Manage projects from conceptual design through construction administration
  • Coordinate architecture and engineering disciplines to develop architectural design concepts
  • Communicate with clients and consultants to clarify project goals and expectations
  • Lead architectural project teams, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams, obtaining approvals, preparing contract documents, technical details, and overseeing construction administration
  • Guide the architectural team in developing construction documents, focusing on detailing, specifications, and materials, and coordinate with BIM and engineering staff
  • Conduct quality assurance activities, including QA/QC reviews during all project phases
  • Assist in developing project budgets, costs, and schedules
  • Review construction submittals and RFIs from contractors at a senior level
  • Complete projects on time and within budget
