Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Lead Archaeologist in Houston, TX to manage and oversee cultural resource projects, serving as primary author on technical reports and research designs. You will guide staff, ensure QA/QC, and oversee budgets, proposals, and client interactions in a hybrid Houston/Baton Rouge setting.

The role requires a master’s in Archaeology or Anthropology, 8+ years field experience, NEPA/Section 106 knowledge, and travel ~20%.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology is required.
• At least 8 years of archaeology fieldwork experience; supervisory experience counts.
• Knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulations.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist status or eligibility.
• Experience editing reports and scheduling/budgeting of projects.
• Ability to work independently and with project teams.
• Willingness to travel ~20% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Develop and foster client relationships to grow SWCA's service offerings.
• Lead authorship of technical reports, research designs and documentation.
• Oversee field research, data collection, analysis and report production.
• Mentor staff in research protocols and reporting.
• Improve project efficiency through problem solving and process improvements.
• Collaborate with local and regional teams for successful outcomes.
• Cultivate relationships with agencies, clients and stakeholders.
• Manage budgets, proposals and client interactions.
