Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Lead Archaeologist in Houston, TX, to lead cultural resource projects, author technical reports, and mentor staff. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement out of Houston or Baton Rouge and reports to the Senior Cultural Resources Director.

You will oversee fieldwork, data analysis, and report production while maintaining QA/QC standards and strong client communication. Travel about 20% is required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology required.
• Minimum of eight years of archaeology fieldwork experience, with supervisory experience
• Thorough knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulations
• Registered Professional Archaeologist status or eligibility
• Experience with content editing of reports and project scheduling/budgeting
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with project teams

Responsibilities

• Lead authorship of technical reports, research designs, and other documentation.
• Oversee field research, data collection, analysis, and report production.
• Mentor and train staff in research protocols and reporting.
• Manage budgets, proposals, and client interactions.
• Ensure QA/QC standards and safety compliance.
• Collaborate with local and regional teams for successful project outcomes
