Job summary

SWCA's Gulf Coast operation is seeking a Lead Archaeologist in Houston, TX, to support its expanding practice. As a key member of our team, you will oversee cultural resource projects, author technical reports, and mentor staff, ensuring QA/QC compliance and high-quality deliverables.

You will manage budgets and proposals, coordinate with Directors and Project Managers, travel about 20%, and uphold SWCA's mission and values in a collaborative, inclusive environment across our Houston and Baton

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
• 8+ years of archaeology fieldwork experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Thorough knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulations.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist status or eligibility.
• Experience with editing reports and scheduling/budgeting.
• Ability to work independently and with project teams.
• Willingness to travel ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead authorship of technical reports, research designs, and other documentation.
• Oversee field research, data collection, analysis, and report production.
• Provide mentorship to staff and ensure QA/QC standards are met.
• Manage budgets, proposals, and client interactions; supervise staff.
• Collaborate with Directors, Team Leads, and Project Managers to coordinate projects.
• Ensure safety policies and SWCA's values are upheld.
