Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead cultural resources projects across the United States from a US ERM office. The role emphasizes technical excellence, project leadership, team development, client service, and business growth.

The candidate will guide archaeological investigations, mentor staff, and drive opportunities to expand ERM''s presence in the cultural resources market while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in energy and infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist (RPA) meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Demonstrated field oversight for inventory, survey, testing, or data recovery.
  • Experience authoring agency-reviewed reports (Class I/III, NEPA sections, Cultural Resources Plans).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency personnel as consultant for client interests.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites.
  • Proficiency with mapping equipment and field technologies (GPS, ArcGIS FieldMaps, Survey123).
  • Valid driver''s license and ability to operate company vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
  • Obtain BLM permits and other required federal/state clearances.
  • Provide QA/QC of deliverables by archaeologists.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (reconnaissance, pedestrian surveys, testing, excavations, monitoring).
  • Lead and manage archaeologists across experience levels; participate in hiring and mentoring.
  • Coordinate with unit leads and directors to support delivery and performance.
  • Sign as Principal Investigator or Task Manager for studies on major capital projects.
  • Ensure delivery within scope, budget, schedule and quality.
