Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead cultural resources programs across the United States from an ERM office. You will guide complex projects, mentor teams, and strengthen client relationships while advancing ERM’s leadership in environmental consulting.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist (RPA) meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Demonstrated field experience and principal-level oversight for projects.
  • Experience authoring and reviewing agency-approved reports (Class I/III, NEPA sections).
  • Experience with regulatory agency interactions as a consultant.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams of archaeologists and specialists.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites.
  • Experience with mapping equipment and field technologies (total station, GPS, ArcGIS FieldMaps, Survey123).
  • Driver's License required for travel.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
  • Obtain BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits and other permits.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables by other archaeologists.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations.
  • Lead and manage archaeologists across experience levels; hiring, mentoring, training.
  • Coordinate with unit leads and partners to support delivery.
  • Sign as PI/Task Manager for major projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within scope.
