Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead major cultural resources projects from our US office. You will guide project delivery, mentor staff, and strengthen client relationships across the United States while supporting business development in energy and infrastructure sectors.

The role requires a graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, 6–8 years of experience, RPA certification, field oversight, and ability to travel.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist (RPA) meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Demonstrated field experience and principal-level oversight for projects (inventory, survey, testing, data recovery).
  • Experience as author/reviewer on agency reports (NEPA-related).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies as a consultant.
  • Ability to travel to field sites.
  • Experience with mapping equipment and field technologies (GPS, ArcGIS, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
  • Obtain BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits and other necessary permits.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (surveys, testing, excavations).
  • Lead and manage archaeologists across experience levels (hiring, mentoring, training).
  • Coordinate with unit leads and senior staff to support delivery.
  • Serve as signing PI/Task Manager for cultural resources studies.
  • Ensure safe, efficient delivery within scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Support multi-state/large projects and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Expand ERM’s profile and market share through technical excellence and business development.
  • Partner with Managing Partners to deepen client relationships and drive revenue growth.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling cultural resources services.
  • Collaborate with environmental planners, GIS, engineers, and other experts.
  • Represent ERM in client and regulatory meetings; manage subcontractors as needed.
