Job summary

Chronicle Heritage in Phoenix is seeking an Archaeological Field Director to lead field crews, oversee surveys, testing, and monitoring, and mentor staff. This full-time hourly role offers training opportunities and a collaborative, safety‑driven environment.

Under supervision of senior project staff, you will manage data collection, write technical reports, and ensure adherence to field procedures. Travel, physical stamina, and a proven track record in Southwest archaeology are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field
• 2+ years CRM fieldwork
• Meet or exceed the Secretary of the Interior’s PQS Archaeology
• 1+ years supervising field crews
• Experience with all Phases I-III and identifying Southwest sites
• Expertise in field methods and data collection
• Familiarity with Section 106 and NRHP criteria
• Willingness to travel for short/long-term projects
• Ability to walk several miles daily and excavate in varied conditions
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Oversee and lead archaeological crews in fieldwork, including surveys, testing/data recovery, and monitoring
• Provide training to new staff in field and laboratory activities
• Complete office work, including technical writing related to pre- and post-field activities
• Direct collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; formulate recommendations
• Collaborate with Team Leads and Project Managers to implement project-specific instructions
• Observe and uphold Fieldwork Procedures and Health and Safety requirements
