Job summary

North Wind Resource Consulting in Tempe, AZ, seeks an Archaeological Field Director to lead field surveys and data collection for projects across Arizona. The role requires mentoring field crews, coordinating mobilization, and delivering data with GPS tools and artifact identification.

Ideal candidates have a Master’s in Archaeology, 3+ years supervising fieldwork, and proven permitting experience on state, BLM, and forest lands in Arizona. Travel 25–50% with safety and schedule discipline.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Archaeology or equivalent discipline is required.
• Must have previously been permitted for work as a field director on state, BLM, and forest lands in Arizona.
• Minimum 3 years’ supervisory field experience with permitting agencies.
• 5+ years of experience with Class III surveys, monitoring, or testing in the Southwest.

Responsibilities

• Lead field surveys for simple to complex projects with accurate information and data collection.
• Organize fieldwork mobilization/demobilization.
• Mentor crews of Archaeological Technicians in survey strategies, data collection, and safety.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and updates.
• Lead data collection using GPS units, photograph project area and artifacts.
• Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Travel to project areas in Arizona and communicate with project management and field staff.
