Job summary

The YMCA of Catawba Valley is hiring a Summer Lead Lifeguard in Conover, NC. This seasonal role leads the aquatics team, oversees lifeguard operations, enforces safety protocols, and mentors staff to maintain a safe, engaging environment for members and guests.

You will supervise lifeguard coverage, assist with training, and support the Aquatics Director in scheduling and operations while promoting the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years lifeguarding experience and demonstrated leadership experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
• Active safety, risk, and programming certifications as defined by YMCA of Catawba Valley.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support lifeguard staff, ensuring proper coverage and professional conduct.
• Act as on-deck lead, assisting with incident response and enforcing facility policies.
• Monitor pool operations for compliance with YMCA and local health and safety standards.
• Assist with in-service training, skill evaluations, and ongoing lifeguard development.
• Perform advanced water rescues and lead emergency response when needed.
• Conduct daily safety checks of the pool and surrounding areas.
