Appian is seeking a Lead Applied AI Engineer to drive the design and delivery of enterprise AI systems for automation at scale. You will lead AI-enabled orchestration, extraction of specifications from existing systems, and evaluation of AI techniques within a production context.

You will mentor engineers, influence documentation, and collaborate with the Engineering team to ensure high-quality, reliable software across a distributed, cloud-based platform.

Qualificações

• BS in Computer Science or related technical/analytical discipline
• 7+ years of software development with a BS (or 5+ years with MS)
• Strong distributed-systems background including retries, idempotency, partial failures, long-running tasks, recovery
• Strong software engineering, data-pipeline, and observability skills; comfortable owning a production service end to end
• Experience using AI coding assistants and ability to evaluate and apply AI-generated code in production
• Excellent communication of highly technical architectures to diverse engineering audiences

• Build Production Agents: Design reliable agents and orchestration with memory and state
• Extract Specifications from Existing Systems: Derive requirements and specs from source, metadata, tests, and runtime behavior
• Model Application Intelligence: Build semantic and dependency models for enterprise contexts
• Prove Correctness with Evaluation: Build evaluation and CI pipelines to gate quality
• Engineer with AI: Use AI coding tools to ship faster while maintaining quality and correctness
• Optimize Performance & Scale: Improve reliability, latency, and efficiency at enterprise scale
• Mentor & Champion Talent: Coach junior engineers to accelerate growth
• Influence Technical Documentation: Contribute to engineering docs site
