Job summary

Appian is seeking a Lead AI Developer Tooling Engineer to shape the tooling that powers our AI automation platform. You will build and improve developer-facing tools, IDE integrations, CLIs, and AI-assisted coding workflows for Appian's engineers.

You will drive engineering excellence, mentor junior staff, and influence internal tooling and documentation while ensuring enterprise-grade reliability and performance across high-volume production systems.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 7+ years with BS or 5+ years with MS in software development.
• Experience building IDE, CLI, code-analysis, CI/CD tools.
• Knowledge of local/remote execution, telemetry, privacy, deployment constraints.
• Strong language-server, parser, build-system, and diagnostics skills.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and evaluating AI-generated code.
• Proven ability to operate high-volume production services.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and optimize developer-facing tools and services.
• Design IDE integrations, CLIs, code-analysis, and CI/CD tooling.
• Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining quality.
• Expose AI in workflows, ensuring fast, understandable, debuggable UX.
• Engineer for performance, scale, and reliable tooling availability.
• Promote best practices, code reviews, and automation frameworks.
• Mentor junior engineers to raise technical proficiency.
• Contribute to technical documentation and enterprise standards.
