Job summary

Appian, a leader in AI-powered automation, seeks a Lead AI Developer Tooling Engineer. You will architect and deliver developer-facing tools—IDEs, CLIs, code-analysis, and CI/CD workflows—that engineers rely on daily to ship AI-enabled features at enterprise scale.

You will mentor peers, shape engineering practices, and ensure the reliability and performance of critical tooling in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on quality and learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical/analytical discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant software development experience with a BS (or 5+ years with MS).
• Experience building IDEs, CLIs, code-analysis, CI/CD, or developer-experience tools.
• Knowledge of local/remote execution, telemetry, privacy, and enterprise deployment constraints.
• Strong language-server, parser, build-system, source-control, and diagnostics experience.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and evaluating AI-generated code in production contexts.
• Proven ability to maintain high-volume production services and communicate architectures clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develop clean software by architecting and optimizing developer-facing tools and services.
• Design IDE integrations, CLIs, code-analysis, and CI/CD tooling used daily by Appian engineers.
• Use AI coding tools as a force multiplier to accelerate shipping quality code.
• Expose AI capabilities in workflows that are fast, understandable, and debuggable.
• Engineer for performance, availability, and scale with deep reliability.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews and automation frameworks.
• Mentor junior engineers to accelerate technical proficiency.
