Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced engineer to own AI-enabled capabilities end to end—from discovery and design to build, validation, and production operation. The role requires guiding clients on when AI is appropriate and when simpler solutions suffice, with strong stakeholder collaboration.

You'll mentor engineers, manage cross-functional delivery, and maintain current knowledge of AI tooling and patterns, including retrieval-augmented generation and agentive workflows, across both client

Qualifications

• Own a capability end to end from ambiguity to production.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with metrics and test sets.
• Strong programming ability across full application.
• Ability to translate stakeholder needs into technical approach.
• Comfortable explaining tradeoffs to engineers and executives.
• Independent work on ambiguous requirements and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders.
• Define technical approach and defend AI pattern choice.
• Recommend simpler solutions when appropriate.
• Define measurable success criteria before building.
• Build complete capabilities including prompts, retrieval, APIs, and UI.
• Build evaluation sets and iterate based on results.
• Make architecture decisions considering quality, cost, latency, security.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and monitoring.
• Help clients understand possibilities and future phases.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through guidance and reviews.
