Job summary

The Athletic is seeking a Senior Manager, Analytics to lead and scale Growth Product Insights. You will own a data pod, define KPIs, and mentor analysts as you translate subscriber and product data into actionable business decisions.

Reporting to the Director, Data & Insights, this 100% remote role welcomes candidates in the United States or Canada. Strong SQL, Python/R, and experimentation expertise are essential, with a passion for sports media.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, product analytics, or applied quantitative roles.
• Experience mentoring data scientists or analysts and elevating analytical judgment.
• Proficiency with SQL and large-scale data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery).
• Programming in Python or R for modeling and analysis.
• Experience with BI tools like Looker, Tableau, or Mode.
• Background in experimentation and causal inference for digital subscriptions.

Responsibilities

• Lead as a player-coach: manage, mentor, and grow a data analytics team.
• Drive proactive insights by shifting from dashboards to strategic inquiry.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Growth to influence roadmap strategy.
• Oversee experimentation, causal inference, and cohort modeling.
• Build trust in data with standardized, trusted metrics across the org.
• Leverage modern tools and AI to accelerate analysis and output.
• Align work with The Athletic’s mission and NYT standards.
