Job summary

UtilityAPI is seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to define the AI architecture for our data platform. You will assess the current stack, design scalable AI-native workflows, and lead the team through early adoption of AI capabilities.

This high-autonomy role blends individual contribution with technical leadership, mentoring engineers, improving data pipelines, and guiding production-ready AI systems within a regulated energy domain.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years working with core database systems, large-scale distributed infrastructure, AI-native systems, or data-intensive platforms.
• Strong coding and system-level design skills in Python.
• Hands-on experience taking AI/ML or LLM-powered systems from prototype to reliable production, including data pipelines and observability.
• Experience designing or operating data-intensive systems that support AI/ML workloads.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for AI adoption across the product and engineering lifecycle.
• Identify, scope, and ship AI/ML capabilities from experimentation to production deployment.
• Train, evaluate, and deploy models on large-scale structured data.
• Build AI systems on managed platforms (e.g., AWS Bedrock) with embedding pipelines and retrieval.
• Establish engineering patterns for AI systems including testing, observability, and data quality.
