Job summary

First American is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build AI-native systems and deploy LLM-powered features at scale within its Title & Settlement Platform. You will lead development in a small, focused team, delivering reliable services and secure APIs that enable AI agents to operate across core platforms.

The role emphasizes production-ready, cloud-native engineering with a strong focus on observability, cost management, and high availability. Remote work is welcome in this environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer building production-grade systems.
• Experience taking LLM-powered features from prototype to production (0 1).
• Hands-on experience building agentic systems with planning/reasoning loops, tool use, and orchestration.
• Experience building large-scale back-end services and APIs with modern languages/frameworks.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
• Solid understanding of LLM operational concerns: token economics, latency, model routing, caching, cost management at scale.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks and quality metrics for AI systems.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure and distributed system design.
• Ability to mentor and influence other engineers, improving technical quality.

Responsibilities

• Own full lifecycle of LLM-powered features from prototyping to production deployment.
• Design autonomous agent architectures and orchestration layers.
• Contribute code for backend services and APIs enabling AI agents to interact securely.
• Collaborate with product management and cross-functional teams to validate solutions.
• Establish evaluation strategies, cost monitoring, latency budgets, and guardrails for production AI systems.
• Mentor peers and promote modern engineering practices.
• Improve development velocity while maintaining code quality.
• Support deployment and observability strategies for high availability.
