Job summary

First American is expanding its software engineering team to build AI-native systems for its Title & Settlement Platform. The Senior Software Engineer will lead end-to-end AI features, from prompt design to production deployment, while creating scalable backend services that interface with AI agents.

The role emphasizes reliability, cost-efficiency, and measurable business value. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business problems into well-scoped AI-driven solutions,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer building production-grade systems.
• Demonstrated experience taking LLM-powered features from prototype to production (0 → 1).
• Hands-on experience building agentic systems including planning/reasoning loops and memory management.
• Experience building large-scale backend services & APIs with modern languages & frameworks.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of a modern workflow.
• Understanding of LLM operational concerns: latency, token economics, and cost at scale.
• Ability to design evaluation frameworks and quality metrics for AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Build & deploy AI systems from concept to production.
• Design autonomous agent architectures with tools and memory layers.
• Develop backend services and APIs to support AI agents.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and ML practitioners.
• Establish evaluation strategies, guardrails, and cost monitoring for AI systems.
• Mentor peers and promote modern engineering practices.
