Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff AI Engineer to advance our responsible AI systems and scalable ML infrastructure.

You will lead cross-functional teams in delivering AI-powered products, from foundation model work to deployment, governance, and observability at enterprise scale. The role emphasizes collaboration with research, data and engineering partners, developing next-gen AI platforms, and mentoring senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/AI/EE/CE with 8–10+ years in AI/ML
• At least 10 years of programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java
• Experience architecting AI platforms with cost, latency, throughput and accuracy tradeoffs

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including training, inference, agents, and governance
• Leverage a broad stack of OSS and SaaS AI technologies and build scalable AI systems
• Invent and introduce foundation model optimization techniques for production performance
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
• Define and steer the AI architecture vision for production ecosystems
• Lead the establishment of AI safety, transparency, and governance standards
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data and engineering
