Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff AI Engineer to advance responsible and scalable AI systems powering customer experiences. You will design and deploy AI software components, including foundation models, inference, agents, and governance, using a broad Open Source and SaaS stack.

You will partner with engineers, researchers, PMs, and tech leads to shape the architecture and scale AI capabilities across the enterprise, continually improving performance, safety, and transparency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/AI/EE or related field with 10+ years of AI/ML experience, or Master's with 8+ years.
• 10+ years experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engineers, research scientists, TPMs, and PMs to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent state-of-the-art foundation model optimization techniques for performance, cost, latency, throughput.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Define and steer the technical AI architecture vision for production ecosystems with reliability and scale.
• Lead establishment of AI performance, safety, and transparency standards across the company.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data and engineering domains
