Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff AI/ML Future Sensing Engineer to advance autonomous driving sensing capabilities. You will lead end-to-end ML efforts for sensor selection, fusion, and deployment, guiding perception models across cameras, lidar, and radar.

This senior role emphasizes technical leadership and hands-on execution. You’ll influence perception architectures, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive scalable data pipelines, model training, and validation for real-world scenarios.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, ML, Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • Proven experience building and scaling AI/ML systems for perception, autonomy, or robotics
  • Hands-on with PyTorch and Python programming
  • Experience with model training pipelines and large-scale data workflows
  • Strong data processing skills with NumPy, Pandas, Spark
  • Ability to validate and optimize perception models under real-world constraints
  • Experience with multi-modal sensor fusion (cameras, lidar, radar)
  • Ability to define and implement metrics for perception and autonomous systems
  • Excellent communication for cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience deploying ML models into production environments

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement AI/ML solutions aligned with autonomous driving and sensing objectives
  • Lead studies on sensor selection, configuration, and fusion strategies
  • Architect perception models and pipelines for detection, tracking, localization, labeling, and uncertainty estimation
  • Define robust metrics to compare sensor configurations and assess system performance
  • Drive model development: data curation, training, validation, and deployment
  • Collaborate with simulation teams to create synthetic data and sensor models
  • Integrate sensing, calibration, compute, and software architecture into system design
  • Translate architecture questions into experimental plans and recommendations
  • Build scalable data processing pipelines and tooling for large-scale evaluation
  • Lead technical execution from prototype to production and document best practices
  • Mentor teams to foster technical excellence and knowledge sharing
