Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Technical Lead in Embodied AI to drive end-to-end ML solutions for autonomous driving. This senior role focuses on designing, architecting, and deploying advanced models, guiding cross-functional teams, and mentoring engineers to advance onboard ML capabilities.

The ideal candidate has experience with large foundation models, RL/IL, and production deployments, with strong Python/PyTorch skills and a robotics/ML background.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science with focus in Robotics and/or Machine Learning.
• Proven experience with large-scale Foundation Models and alignment methods.
• Experience delivering applied research in the wild and meeting tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in PyTorch; proficient in Python.
• Experience building and scaling large model training pipelines for distributed teams.
• Strong data processing skills with Numpy, Pandas, and Apache Spark.
• Excellent communication to collaborate with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement technologies aligning models with GM’s mission.
• Apply unsupervised pre-training, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, guidance and selection to improve model performance and safety.
• Collaborate to integrate distillation recipes for onboard driving models.
• Conduct research and stay updated on AI frameworks and libraries.
• Lead projects from ideation to deployment and document learnings.
• Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing.
