Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Systems Engineer for the AV team to lead the architecture and integration of autonomous sensing systems across programs. You will direct system-level trade studies, analyze individual sensors, and define multi-modality sensor suites including camera, radar, lidar, and more, coordinating with AI/ML, simulation, data collection, platform software, and vehicle integration teams.

You will drive data‑driven decisions in ambiguous environments, ensuring technical soundness

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
• 10+ years of experience with B.S. with significant sensor related experience
• Demonstrated leadership across system architecture, data collection, analysis, integration
• Experience developing multi-modality sensing systems (camera, radar, lidar) and integration
• Technical depth in signal processing, ML, or related sensing modality
• Understanding of self-driving challenges and sensor mapping
• Ability to operate in ambiguous spaces and align across teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of Matlab, Python, or other data analysis tools

Responsibilities

• Lead system level trade studies for multi-modality sensor systems with performance modeling
• Develop detailed sensor performance specifications
• Assess performance against product needs to manage risk and drive improvements
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception, localization, and validation teams
• Document technical decisions, trade‑offs, and deliverables.
