Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to lead sensor system design for autonomous sensing across GM’s programs. You will guide system-level trade studies, define sensor performance specs, and work with AI/ML, simulation, data collection, platform software, and vehicle integration teams to address challenging problems.

You will craft data-driven solutions, document decisions, and influence cross-functional teams toward robust sensor architectures and validated production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience with substantial sensor-related work.
• Demonstrated leadership executing cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience developing multi-modality sensing systems and their integration.
• Technical depth in signal processing, link analysis, or ML across a sensor modality.
• Understanding of self-driving challenges and sensor mapping to needs.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and drive alignment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; data-driven.
• Proficiency in Matlab, Python, or similar data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead system-level trade studies for multi-modality sensor systems with performance modeling.
• Develop detailed sensor performance specifications grounded in sensor physics and processing.
• Assess performance against product needs to quantify risk and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception, localization, and validation teams to manage interdependencies.
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables clearly.
