Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, ML, Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • Proven experience building and scaling AI/ML systems for perception, autonomy, or robotics
  • Hands-on with PyTorch and Python programming
  • Experience with model training pipelines and large-scale data workflows
  • Strong data processing skills with NumPy, Pandas, Spark
  • Ability to validate and optimize perception models under real-world constraints
  • Experience with multi-modal sensor fusion (cameras, lidar, radar)
  • Ability to define and implement metrics for perception and autonomous systems
  • Excellent communication for cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience deploying ML models into production environments

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff AI/ML Future Sensing Engineer to join our Embodied AI organization at General Motors. This role is pivotal in advancing our autonomous driving capabilities by focusing on the development and deployment of machine learning solutions that enhance sensing architectures. As a senior individual contributor, you will lead end-to-end technical efforts to inform sensor selection, configuration, and fusion strategies involving cameras, lidar, radar, and other sensing modalities. Your expertise will directly influence the perception systems that enable safe and reliable autonomous vehicle operation across diverse real-world scenarios. This position offers the flexibility of remote or hybrid work arrangements across multiple locations, including Sunnyvale, Washington, California, and New York.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
  • Proven experience in building and scaling AI/ML systems for perception, autonomy, or robotics applications
  • Hands‑on expertise with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and proficiency in Python programming
  • Experience with model training pipelines, large‑scale data workflows, and infrastructure for efficient model iteration
  • Strong data processing skills using tools like NumPy, Pandas, and Apache Spark
  • Demonstrated ability to validate, debug, and optimize perception models under real‑world constraints
  • Experience with multi‑modal sensor fusion involving cameras, lidar, radar, or similar modalities
  • Ability to define and implement metrics for perception and autonomous systems evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills for effective cross‑functional collaboration
  • Experience deploying ML models into production environments and understanding deployment workflows

  • Lead technical execution from prototyping to production readiness, documenting best practices and lessons learned
