Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 4 in Cambridge, MA to advance AI foundations, LLM core, and agentic AI. You will partner with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered experiences for customers, using PyTorch, Huggingface, and cloud platforms.

You will build foundation models, train and evaluate them, and translate results into deployable solutions. A PhD or MS with applied research is expected, with a strong publications mindset encouraged.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have a PhD/MS in a related field with timing aligned to start date.
• Experience with AI foundations, LLMs, and research in applied settings is preferred.
• Strong publication record or practical impact in ML/NLP is welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for customers.
• Leverage PyTorch and cloud tools to derive insights from large data volumes.
• Build AI foundation models through design, training, evaluation, and implementation.
• Translate research into tangible business outcomes and user experiences.
• Collaborate with senior researchers to prepare technical reports or conference papers.
• Translate complex work into clear business goals and impact metrics.
