Job summary

Capital One seeks an Applied Researcher 4 to advance AI foundations, LLM core, and agentic AI. You will build and refine foundation models, train and evaluate them, and collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to create scalable AI solutions for customer experiences.

You will work with PyTorch, AWS, Hugging Face, and cloud platforms to push model capabilities while ensuring safety, reliability, and real-world impact. PhD or MS with strong NLP/ML credentials is preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, AI or related fields, or MS with 2 years applied research experience.
• Experience with large language models or foundation models.
• Proven publication record or projects demonstrating ML/NLP expertise.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Develop AI foundation models from design through training and validation.
• Publish internal reports or conference submissions of novel methods or findings.
• Translate complex research into business goals and impact.
