Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 5 in AI Foundations, LLM Core and Agentic AI to help build trustworthy AI systems powering real-time customer experiences. Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields with start-date constraint and 2-year experience threshold.
• MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields with 4 years of experience in Applied Research.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and PMs to deliver AI-powered products.
• Leverage a broad stack of technologies — PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, Lightning, and more — to reveal insights from large data.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation and implementation.
• Engage in high-impact applied research to translate latest AI developments into production-ready customer experiences.
• Translate complex research into tangible business goals and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional research threads bridging prototype model development and deployment with ML engineering.
