Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 5 to advance AI foundations and large language models, collaborating with data scientists, engineers and product managers. The role focuses on building, evaluating and deploying AI models at scale within a banking context, translating research into real customer experiences.

You will work with PyTorch and cloud platforms to push state-of-the-art methods into production, while leading research initiatives and contributing to a robust AI infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have completed a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields; MS with 4 years of applied research also acceptable.
• Experience with large deep learning models and AI foundation models.
• Publication track record or demonstrable impact in ML/AI research.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products and translate research into production.
• Develop and evaluate AI foundation models from design to deployment.
• Lead research threads bridging prototype models and ML engineering to drive production impact.
