Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 4 to advance AI foundations and large language models. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, train, and deploy AI systems that transform how customers interact with their money.

A strong research track record and ability to translate findings into business value are essential. Responsibilities include building foundation models, leveraging PyTorch and cloud platforms, and preparing reports or conference submissions.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS, AI or related field or MS plus 2 years applied research experience.
• Experience building AI foundation models and large language models.
• Good publication record in ML/NLP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and PMs to deliver AI-powered products.
• Utilize PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, Lightning to analyze large data sets.
• Develop AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation and deployment.
• Translate complex research into tangible business goals for customers.
• Prepare internal tech reports or conference submissions with senior researchers.
