Job summary

Janus Henderson Group is seeking a Principal Forward Deployed Engineer to lead and grow a high-impact team embedded with business units. You will balance hands-on engineering with strategic leadership, setting the bar for technical excellence and driving the AI transformation across the enterprise.

You will report to the Head of AI Technology, shaping the Forward Deployed Engineering roadmap and ensuring alignment with the JHI strategic plan.

Qualifications

• Eight years in technical, business-facing engineering roles including time as the most senior engineer.
• Experience leading engineers as a line manager, tech lead, or founder.
• Strong Python and SQL with hands-on delivery in production.
• Production experience with LLMs, prompt engineering and agent development.
• Experience building data pipelines from APIs and enterprise systems.
• Cloud knowledge with CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code, ideally Azure.
• Own a technical roadmap and defend technology choices to stakeholders.
• Excellent stakeholder skills and ability to influence without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Lead Forward Deployed Engineers, line-manage as the team grows.
• Own team deliverables, standards, and timelines; allocate resources.
• Design, build, and productionise complex AI solutions.
• Maintain architecture aligned with enterprise core stack.
• Review new models, tools, and vendors for feasibility and cost.
