Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to help build responsible and scalable AI systems for real-time customer experiences.

You will work with cross-functional teams to design and deploy AI software, including foundation models, LLM inference, and multi-agent workflows, using a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies. The role emphasizes responsible AI principles and collaboration across Capital One’s IFX team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field with several years of AI/ML experience.
• At least 8 years of experience programming in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI tech like AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent and introduce foundation model optimization techniques for performance and cost.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
• Set the technical direction for enterprise-wide AI architecture across teams.
• Own design and integration of model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid workloads.
• Champion responsible AI practices focusing on transparency, reproducibility, and fairness.
• Drive internal education, mentorship, and knowledge sharing through AI guilds.
