Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff AI Engineer to lead the design and deployment of large-scale AI systems. You will partner with engineers, scientists, PMs and leaders to deliver production-grade AI components, including model training, inference, and governance, across a broad tech stack.

You will help define the technical vision, mentor teams, and drive multi-year initiatives to unify data, compute, and model lifecycles. This role supports remote work from multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 10+ years of experience developing AI/ML or a Master’s with 8+ years.
• 10+ years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent state-of-the-art foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, scalability, latency, and cost.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Define and steer the AI architecture vision with production reliability and scale.
• Lead AI performance, safety, and transparency standards company-wide.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives for data, compute and model lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data, and engineering.
