Job summary

Rootstrap is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and ship production-grade AI systems with a focus on real-time, voice-enabled applications. You will own AI features end to end, from orchestration and retrieval through deployment, evaluation, and monitoring in live environments.

You will collaborate in a remote, sprint-based team, building scalable APIs and services for web, voice, and mobile clients while ensuring latency, accuracy, and safety across models and providers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in AI/ML or AI-focused software engineering with production experience.
• Hands-on experience building LLM applications and agents using orchestration frameworks.
• Strong RAG and retrieval experience with vector databases.
• Solid Python and production API skills (FastAPI or equivalent).
• Experience evaluating AI systems and automated gates in production.
• Cloud production experience (AWS preferred) with Docker, CI/CD and IaC.
• Strong software fundamentals: testing, version control, modular design.
• Experience deploying, monitoring, and refactoring AI systems in production.
• AI-native development workflow and ability to ship code safely through reviews.
• Excellent written and spoken communication; comfortable in a remote team with US overlap.

Responsibilities

• Design and build LLM-powered agents and multi-step workflows with auditable state.
• Build fast, accurate retrieval systems meeting real-time latency budgets.
• Own AI features end to end from prototype to production deployment and monitoring.
• Refactor live production systems without disrupting customers.
• Create scalable Python APIs and services for web, voice, and mobile clients.
• Implement observability, tracing, and performance monitoring across features.
• Work across a multi-LLM stack behind a provider-abstraction layer.
• Collaborate daily in a remote sprint-based team with weekly reviews and blockers surfacing.
