Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced AI solutions engineer to turn ambiguous business problems into production AI capabilities for federal clients. You will work across discovery, build, and operations with stakeholders to ensure measurable success and responsible deployment.

You will design patterns, ensure robust retrieval and prompts, and deliver end-to-end capabilities with governance, logging, and documentation. Expect a client-facing, high-cadence role in a small company with big reach.

Qualifications

• 7+ years creating production software.
• 2+ years building LLM-based apps: prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, tool use, and agent patterns.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with test sets and metrics.
• Strong programming in Python/TypeScript/SQL with API integration and handling imperfect data.
• Lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders and translate to technical approach.
• Judgement on tradeoffs between accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity; able to explain to engineers and executives.
• Excellent written communication; client-facing docs and design rationale.
• Ability to work with minimal direction in ambiguous situations; surface problems worth solving.
• U.S Citizenship required; ability to obtain federal clearance for client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with business and technical stakeholders to understand workflow, decision, and success criteria.
• Define measurable success criteria before building.
• Recommend against AI when a simpler solution exists.
• Select the AI pattern appropriate to the problem.
• Make and defend architecture decisions on where a workload should run.
• Build the complete capability including prompt and retrieval design and API integration.
• Build evaluation sets and measure against them.
• Determine readiness for deployment and production.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and traceability.
• Produce clear documentation of solution, limitations, validation, and failure modes.
• Monitor quality, cost, latency, and drift after launch and optimize.
