Job summary

Groundswell is a premier technology integrator delivering AI-enabled solutions for federal agencies. You will be an engineer turning ambiguous business problems into working AI capabilities, accountable from design through production.

This client-facing role spans discovery, build, and operations, requiring you to be the AI-literate person in rooms with engineers, executives, and end users. The role sits at the intersection of modern AI capabilities, production engineering, and requirements

Qualifications

• 7+ years building and shipping production software.
• 2+ years integrating large language models in apps (prompting, retrieval, extraction).
• Experience evaluating AI systems with metrics and test data.
• Strong Python/TypeScript/SQL programming with API integration.
• Ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to justify tradeoffs between accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity.
• Excellent client-facing writing and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with stakeholders to understand the workflow and success criteria.
• Define measurable success, accuracy targets, and acceptance conditions.
• Recommend non-AI alternatives when simpler solutions suffice.
• Select AI patterns (extraction, classification, summarization, retrieval, agentic).
• Make architecture decisions about where workloads run (cost, latency, security).
• Build full capability including prompts, retrieval, APIs, UI, and data handling.
• Develop evaluation sets and measure results to guide iteration.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and traceability.
• Produce documentation detailing function, limitations, validation, and failure handling.
• Monitor and optimize quality, cost, latency, and drift post-launch.
• Mentor engineers and raise the team’s AI judgment.
• Share reusable patterns to accelerate future projects.
• Navigate across client delivery, product work, and POCs as needed.
