Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced AI/ML engineer to turn ambiguous business problems into production AI solutions. You will work with stakeholders to assess if AI adds value, design the approach, build end-to-end capabilities, demonstrate viability, and own production deployment across the full lifecycle.

You will navigate between client delivery, internal product work, rapid proofs of concept, and internal enablement, often being the most AI-literate person in rooms with engineers,

Qualifications

• 7+ years building and shipping production software.
• 2+ years hands-on experience building LLM-enabled apps (prompting, retrieval, extraction, tools, agents).
• Experience evaluating AI quality with metrics and test sets.
• Strong programming in Python, TypeScript, or SQL with API integration.
• Proven ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to explain tradeoffs between accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity.
• Excellent written communication for client-facing documentation.
• Ability to work with minimal direction in ambiguous situations and drive decisions.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain federal security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with stakeholders to understand workflow and acceptable results.
• Define measurable success criteria before building (accuracy targets, thresholds, failure conditions).
• Recommend against AI when a simpler solution suffices; improve interfaces and processes.
• Select AI patterns appropriate to the problem (extraction, classification, summarization, retrieval, or agentic).
• Decide where workloads run, balancing quality, cost, latency, and security.
• Build the complete capability (prompts, retrieval, APIs, data handling, UI).
• Create evaluation sets and iterate based on results, not intuition.
• Determine deployment readiness and monitor post-launch performance.
• Document solution scope, limitations, validation, and failure handling.
• Mentor engineers and share reusable patterns with the team.
