Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with a strong AI focus to advance production-grade AI, computer vision, and automation in our manufacturing workflows at our San Carlos facility.

You will partner with software, operations, manufacturing, quality, and hardware teams to deploy AI-enabled services and data pipelines that improve inspection, traceability, and decision-support across the factory, owning delivery from discovery to deployment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in CS, EE, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong Python skills and experience with AI/ML, computer vision, or data-intensive systems.
• Experience designing APIs, services, integrations, and maintainable architectures.
• Experience moving prototypes to production with strong debugging, testing, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Identify, prototype, and deploy AI/ML and computer vision solutions for manufacturing workflows.
• Build reliable AI-enabled services, APIs, and data pipelines that integrate internal systems and equipment.
• Ensure AI safety and reliability with monitoring and guardrails to prevent incorrect decisions.
• Own end-to-end delivery from requirements through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Lead design discussions and mentor engineers to build scalable AI-enabled features.
