Job summary

Joby is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with a strong AI focus to bring production-grade AI, computer vision, and automation into manufacturing workflows. You will partner with software, product, operations, and manufacturing teams to identify high-impact opportunities and deploy AI-enabled services and vision systems that enhance inspection, traceability, and process monitoring.

You will shape how AI is applied across the team, establishing patterns and tooling for reliable, scalable AI

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
Strong Python skills and experience building AI/ML, computer vision, or data-intensive systems.
Experience designing APIs, services, integrations, and maintainable system architectures.
Experience moving prototypes into reliable production systems, with strong debugging, testing, and observability practices.

Responsibilities

Identify, prototype, and deploy AI/ML and computer vision solutions that improve manufacturing workflows.
Build reliable AI-enabled services, APIs, and data pipelines that integrate internal systems and manufacturing equipment.
Develop safeguards to ensure AI predictions do not adversely affect manufacturing decisions.
Own end-to-end delivery from requirements through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
Lead technical design discussions and mentor engineers to enable scalable AI-enabled features.
