Job summary

Joby is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with a strong AI focus to integrate AI, computer vision, and automation into manufacturing workflows. You will partner with software, product, operations, and hardware teams to identify high-impact opportunities and deploy vision systems that improve inspection, traceability, and process monitoring.

The role requires a BS/MS in CS/EE and 5+ years building production systems, with strong Python skills and API design experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong Python skills and experience with AI/ML, computer vision, or data-intensive systems.
• Experience designing APIs, services, integrations, and maintainable architectures.
• Proven ability to move prototypes into production with debugging, testing, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Identify, prototype, and deploy AI/ML and computer vision solutions for manufacturing workflows.
• Build reliable AI-enabled services, APIs, and data pipelines integrating internal systems and equipment.
• Ensure safety and quality: measure model quality before and after deployment to avoid incorrect predictions in production.
• Own end-to-end delivery from requirements through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Lead design discussions, mentor engineers, and establish patterns and tooling for AI-enabled features.
