Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to serve as the Manufacturing Engineering SME across BE-7 and Blue Thrusters. This role anchors the standard for manufacturing, guiding rapid transitions to production and mentoring the ME team.

The position focuses on design-for-manufacturability, production readiness, and scalable processes to support 1,000+ units/year, with emphasis on automation and AI-enabled tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or Materials Science Engineering from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of direct manufacturing engineering experience in a production or development-to-production environment.
• 5+ years authoring work instructions and managing manufacturing BOMs for complex hardware.
• Hands-on experience manufacturing propulsion or aerospace hardware.
• DFM feedback to design engineers and drive design changes in cross-functional environments.
• Experience across multiple manufacturing domains including precision assembly, welding, machining, and fluid/propulsion systems.
• Experience leading or executing NPI and transition-to-production efforts.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Manufacturing Engineering SME across BE-7 and Blue Thrusters value streams.
• Establish and enforce manufacturing best practices; mentor MEs to raise technical floor.
• Lead DFM/DFA reviews and drive producibility improvements reducing cost and cycle time.
• Engage early in design to influence hardware before changes are expensive.
• Lead manufacturing readiness activities for qualification and transition to production.
• Develop and execute NPI strategies for Blue Thrusters variants; scale processes.
• Architect production systems to support 1,000+ units/year.
• Lead automation stand-up and AI-assisted manufacturing tools deployment.
